1. How Did My Front Yard Look?
Actually, the hidden intention of this trip
was to eat broiled eels with my birthday as an excuse. The food called the
broiled eels is not only expensive in cost, but people say you must eat it at a
‘delicious place.’ People ‘who have taste on seafood’ in Busan must have famous
restaurants of their own style on particular food. So I wanted to find the no.1
restaurant for broiled eels in Busan (in my opinion) that needs to go further
inside from ‘Gijang’ with a taxi or my own car for quite some time, but the sky
turned gloomy and dark so I decided to just go to Cheongsapo which is nearby.
If you are a citizen of Busan who lives in
Haeundae, the name ‘Cheongsapo’ might be a friendly name like your front yard.
I spent all my school days near Cheongsapo Haeundae, so it was interesting to
see foreigners come on trips to this place when I was young. Since Cheongsapo
is so familiar as a common place for a school trip during my elementary school
days. After leaving Haeundae as I grew up, when I talk about those days
recalling my memories most people say ‘then you must have eaten a lot of eels,
roasted clam and sashimi often’ with half surprise and half envy. But oh my, I
don’t have any memory enjoying the ‘taste of sea’ at Cheongsapo. The only
memory that I have of Cheongsapo is the one collecting rubbish during a field
study program during my ‘child elementary’ days. Not having to visit the ‘famous
restaurants of Cheongsapo’ for over 10 years living there, I feel not only
unfair but also embarrassed. Coming to think of it, I don’t even remember how
Cheongsapo, which I used to boast to say that ‘it is my front yard’ looks,
yikes! Now since I’ve come to this point I felt something like sense of duty
raise in my heart. I have to eat broiled eels on my old front yard.
